Church History

It was 1961 when Guy Bennett & his wife pulled into Chico, following the call of God to plant an Apostolic church in Chico. It all launched from the Eagle’s Hall on 20th Street, then on to the little building on Broadway, on to Longfellow, then finally purchasing property out on Garner Lane to build their own sanctuary.

God was good to the congregation. They grew and held their place. The foundation laid by Pastor Bennett was solid & stable, built upon the doctrine & experience of the apostles & prophets (Eph. 2:20). But adversity visited the church when Pastor Bennett was diagnosed with cancer. The disease claimed him in the early 1980’s, but the church was determined to journey on.

There were a succession of pastors from Pastor Bennett’s death until 1996, when Pastor Nathan Morton & his family arrived. Pastor Burl Woodward, a faithful minister who had steered & preserved the congregation for several years through some very troubling times, was ready to pass on the work. The Morton’s heard the call and said yes, Lord.

Taking a group of 14 who were now using a 600 square foot space in a strip mall on East Ave for a sanctuary, everyone set to work to rebuild & renew Truth Church into a passionate, dynamic unit of Book of Acts believers ready for vision, revival and progress.

God began to bless, and we quickly outgrew the East Ave location. In November of 1996, God opened the door for a larger facility at our present address, 3870 Morrow Lane. Then another opportunity unfolded in 2001 and we were able to add on to our square footage, tripling our capacity to our present sanctuary & facilities.

But the buildings are only a symbolic part of the story. The essence of Truth Church is a body of saints, with one mind and one accord, striving together for our families, our futures and our community. We are the witness of Christ in the world, especially Chico and the greater area, and we invite you to be a part as we move on into what God has ordained for His people. We are still making history!

As Moses declared in Numbers 10:29 “Come with us, and we will do thee good.”
